Mission and Vision

The Internet Segura Project has the following strategic goals:

  1. Active illegal content identification and combat;
  2. Effective minimization of illegal and harmful contents on citizens;
  3. Promotion of Safe Internet use;
  4. Educating citizens about the risks associated with Internet use.

In order to achieve the above mentioned, some operative goals were identified:

  1. Creation of an Executive Council, comprised of relevant persons and entities;
  2. Creation of an on-line service to report illegal Internet contents;
  3. Information divulging regarding Internet dangers, to different target-audiences and privileged mediums;
  4. Challenging the Private Sector to get involved in actions that promote safe Internet use.

The Internet Segura project also has an international mission, cooperating with two other international projects: Insafe and Inhope.

Insafe is a network of State Members’ projects that promote safe Internet use. Portugal has been a member of Insafe since 2004, taking part in international events and participating, in Portugal, in activities related to the European Safer Internet Day.

Inhope is the International Association of Internet Hotlines, where one can report illegal and/or harmful Web content. The cooperation between hotlines allows a more effective information exchange, facilitating the removal of illegal and harmful contents when those are hosted in countries that are outside the scope of where it was reported. Inhope also supports the creation and development of new hotlines, as in Portugal’s case.
